POSITION PURPOSE The Temporary Outdoor Program Rental Shop Manager will oversee the Outdoor Program Rental Shop and provide the Whitman College community and greater Walla Walla Region with access to outdoor recreational equipment and retail merchandise.
This position will also serve as the information hub for OP trips, SSRA credit granting courses, student run clubs, and special events.
This is a temporary position working for roughly 30 hours/week for 26 weeks.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Manage finances for the OP Rental Shop and support other finances for the OP.
Responsible for management of OP Rental Shop during hours of operation.
Gain an understanding of the 3 accounts you have access to and know their GL's (1) OP Rental Shop, (2) OP Vehicles, and (3) Reserve Savings Account and manage in consultation with OP Director and Assistant Director.
Support the OP with coordination of the WFR, WFA and WFR recertification courses.
Work with OP Director, Assistant Director, and OP Trips Coordinator to support the OP Trips Program to support day and multi-day trips.
Maintain, track, and repair as able rental equipment on an ongoing basis.
Be aware and track any retail merchandise items that get low or need re-ordering.
Work with Manager if any merchandise needs replacing and re-ordering.
Work closely with the OP Director and Assistant Director to ensure campus educational needs and business relation expectations are being met.
Perform additional tasks as appropriate in carrying out the duties of the Outdoor Program Rental Shop.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES Ability to positively and actively contribute to the College's core values of diversity, equity, inclusion and antiracism.
Ability to work on different projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent organizational, management, and communication skills.
Competent in the operation of a personal computer and other general office equipment.
Knowledge of software programs such as Microsoft Office suite.
Ability to move 40-60 lbs.
or more, as well as large, awkward, and bulky outdoor gear, with help.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of Whitman College business and administrative systems.
Knowledge of recreational opportunities in local and regional area.
Knowledge of POS reporting software, and database software.
Knowledge of website editing, google drive, and social media such as Facebook, Instagram and twitter.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Previous customer service AND/OR office management experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with outdoor equipment.
Experience with outdoor education programs, trip leading, or experiential education institutions or schools.
